Art in Motion: Guayasamín’s Ecuador Unframed
Art in Motion: Guayasamín’s Ecuador Unframed, was an exhibit whose aim was to heal, unify, and enlighten our community, as Fr. Jenkins challenged us to do in his September 2011 message. The exhibit was housed at the Notre Dame Center for Arts and Culture (NDCAC) on West Washington Street in South Bend in fall 2014. Read more.
Preparing your child for college
The Provost’s Initiative on Engaging the Community underwrote the Spanish and Community-Based Learning project in September 2012. The two-night series began on the evening of September 17 at the Kroc Center with a bilingual information night, Preparing for College, followed by bilingual college visits at various South Bend campuses the next week. Community-Based Research (CBR) with No Parent Left Behind
In fall 2012 and spring 2013, Rachel Parroquin’s Community Based Spanish – Language, Culture, and Community classes worked with community partner, No Parent Left Behind (NPLB). NPLB’s executive director, Joyce Long, co-taught the month long CBR unit. Read more.
Translation projects
Several classes taught by a number of faculty have assisted community partners with translation of documents and materials. Some of the local partner organizations we have worked with include: Holy Cross School, St. Vincent DePaul, Ronald McDonald Room affiliated with Memorial Hospital, and the Juvenile Justice Center of St. Joseph County.
