Kankakee Wetlands Organic Gardens

FOCUS: To nurture a neighborhood where we value, care and respect our 16,000 year old soil and each other.

ACTIVITIES: Fall and spring activities in our permanent no-till growing beds and foot paths involve: covering our soil by planting cover crop seeds, shredded leaf mulch or woven ground cover, aerating the soil, building our annual compost pile, harvesting, weeding, planting transplants in some areas, and planting multi-species cover crop seeds in our growing beds.

HOURS: FRI–SUN approximately 2 to 3 hours between 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and/or between 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Another service day can be arranged as needed by student or project.

REQUIREMENTS: Spanish – helpful but not required; Background Check; TB Test
