Regina Williams-Preston, community partnerships program director at the Institute for Social Concerns, is rolling out several initiatives with the goal of leveraging ND’s faculty research in collaboration with community partners to respond to local issues.

Two new faculty members, a senior research associate, and a practitioner in residence are joining the Institute for Social Concerns at the start of the fall 2024 semester.

This summer, McNeill Common Good Fellows are researching issues of justice in a wide variety of fields — from book bans to lipid nanoparticles — throughout the U.S. and internationally.

New York Times columnist David Brooks, Harvard’s Michael Sandel, and other speakers and panels explored the ways a just society requires moral formation, and how higher education can contribute to flourishing.

The Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center and the Institute for Social Concerns partnered to make the Clemente Course in the Humanities available locally.

“I’m happy to make art so that people who may have a harder time talking about things have a space for refuge or conversation if they want that,” she said. “And, hopefully, eventually that will lead to deeper healing.”

The Institute for Social Concerns celebrated the Class of 2024 on May 17 with its annual Senior Send-Off during Notre Dame’s Commencement Weekend.

Graff, a historian and director of the Higgins Labor Program at the Institute for Social Concerns, spoke at a conference organized as part of the project, The Future of Work: Labour after Laudato Si.
