Summer Service Learning Program

The Summer Service Learning Program

How do my actions contribute to the common good? What are ways that I can practice solidarity with the marginalized? How can I use my skills to promote justice and human dignity? Whether in person or virtual, students learn a lot when they participate in the SSLP, all while developing experience in their field.

The Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP) offers students the opportunity to serve for eight weeks with non-profit organizations related to healthcare, homelessness, immigration, education, and other social issues. Sponsored by Notre Dame Clubs across the country, SSLP students receive a $3,000 scholarship and three credits toward a variety of minors and majors.

In light of COVID-19, SSLP 2021 participants will serve exclusively in their home communities at an SSLP site sponsored by local Notre Dame Clubs. Students will either live at home or "on-site" at an SSLP service organization within a short drive to home. In person service remains the preference, but if it becomes impossible to do so, then students will remain partnered with the same organization and will instead provide virtual service. This arrangement will provide the greatest assurance possible that students will be able to participate in the SSLP placement full time for 8 weeks, receive a $500 stipend and $2,500 scholarship, as well as 3 credits. Check out student stories and more here.

The application window for the summer of 2021 has closed. Information about the application for the 2022 SSLP will be posted in September.

Winter Virtual Service Corps

Modeled on the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP), the Winter Virtual Service Corps is a 1-credit (graded S/U) service learning opportunity through the Center for Social Concerns where students select a service organization to work with remotely for three weeks in January while engaging in weekly readings and reflections with peer groups.
