Description

Our mission at Casa Teresa is to provide pregnant women in crisis a loving home to begin their healing journey. Through love, hope, compassion and empowerment, we strive to break the cycles of abuse, transform women, help families become healthy and thrive through our program. We specifically serve pregnant women, 18 and older, experiencing homelessness and have the capacity to assist pregnant women with additional children as well.

Student Role

The student will work closely with our House Moms to support the day-to-day needs of Residents at Casa Teresa, gaining hands-on experience in trauma-informed care and social services. Responsibilities may include assisting with Resident classes, providing childcare support, preparing meals, organizing inventory, and helping with various projects and events. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with staff from other departments to understand the broader operations of the organization, participate in at least one fundraising event with the Development team, and spend time at our resale thrift store, The Collection, working alongside Residents in the Career Development Program.

Work Schedule

The weeks will primarily be spent with our AM House Moms from 8:30am-4:30pm, with the exception of one week spent with our PM House Moms from 2:30pm-11:00pm.

Orientation

Students will receive a thorough orientation on our onsite and offsite programs, including insights into the women we serve, staff departments, and facility layout. Training involves a facility tour and review of two trauma training sessions. Our Program Director will then meet with students to answer questions and clarify guidelines and expectations. Our Intern Supervisor will meet with the students to discuss their schedule and responsibilities at the beginning of each week.

Housing Information

Students will share a bedroom with one other intern in a private living space that includes two beds, a private bathroom, a closet, and a kitchenette. They will be living in the same building as the residents but will have their own private space.

Drivers License

Yes

Student Preferences

We prefer female students, as many of our women have experienced severe trauma by men. Additionally, students who are independent and who have natural skills in empathy and problem solving are appreciated.
