Description

Thresholds provides innovative behavioral healthcare that promotes empowerment, well-being, and full participation in community life. Through unwavering community-based engagement, support and advocacy, Thresholds helps people living with mental health and substance use conditions find home, health, and hope. Few, if any, agencies in the country have more experience than Thresholds in providing supportive services to people with serious mental illness (SMI) and co-occurring disorders. Founded in 1959, Thresholds is one of the largest providers of community mental health services in Illinois, serving over 9,500 people a year. The agency has 33 unique programs that employ 184 clinical teams, operating out of 80 sites (including 55 residential locations) throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.

Student Role

Students would be working alongside our staff in a number of different roles: -Working with our homeless outreach teams to engage people who are experiencing homelessness and offer a wide variety of services which include housing options, access to healthcare and substance use treatment, assistance with entitlement applications and basic needs such as food and clothing. Thresholds utilizes evidence-based practices and a wide range of supports to treat the whole person. -Working with our supportive housing staff to provide case management, advocacy and person centered services to our housing residents with serious mental illness and who may have a co-occurring substance use disorder and comorbid medical conditions. -Occasionally accompanying our staff to engage and educate the wider community on mental health and Thresholds at community events.
