Student Role

Client Services Representative Responsibilities: Client Services students support daily operations at the Saint Paul Opportunity Center in checking clients in, providing tangible resources such as community cards and hygiene products, creating a warm and trusting environment alongside the Catholic Charities Client Advocate Team. The population served are individuals experiencing homelessness which in turn will result in supporting individuals living with disabilities, mental and chemical health needs, legal barriers, food and resource insecurity and/or asylum seekers, refugees or persons involved with immigration proceedings. Client services students provide a curated range of case management style support services (without managing a formal caseload) that include following: Reduced Fee ID Vouchers, Combined Application Forms, Faxing Documents, Assisting Clients Gather Vital Documents, Income Verification, help clients identify specialized providers to whom they can go for more involved assistance such as Legal Services, Mental Health Services, Chemical Health Services, and services for persons fleeing domestic violence. Client services students will also integrate their research and service project into an area of emphasis that could result in developing and facilitating a client group, offering a presentation of information to a client group, specialized/focused case management support, emphasis on crisis response, or another focus mutually agreed upon between the Client Services student and the Program Manager. Client Services students will learn and use evidence based practices person centered theory, motivational interview, and trauma informed care to deliver services.

Work Schedule

Students will complete 8 hour days Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM providing and supporting existing services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Hours may be later some days, planed in advance that would be 9:30AM-5:30 PM. Students will be free at all other times.

Orientation

We will provide an overall agency orientation prior to arrival via Zoom and then they will be provided an onsite orientation on the first day. They will also be invited to attend any agency trainings available during their time with us.
