What are students doing?

• Create/write a policy for Duke related to free speech, pickets, protests, demonstrations, encampments etc. that you believe would be effective (however you define this) while also passing “constitutional muster,” that is aligned with Duke’s institutional values, that represents the virtues of compassion/empathy and that encourages civil and authentic discourse.
• Clearly identify what makes your proposed policy a compassionate/empathetic one. How might your proposed policy be different if it were not taking a compassionate/empathetic approach?
• You should articulate any aspects of the policy that you believe might be incongruent with the virtues of compassion/empathy and authenticity.
• The policy should address speech issues for students, faculty and staff.
• You will be creating these policies in teams with 3-4 of your classmates and you will present your policy on [...]. The actual written policy from each group is due the last day of class, (30% of your grade).
