Description
Casa Pueblo is a community-led organization founded in 1980 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. It operates under its own governance model, advocating for territorial defense, environmental protection, cultural affirmation, a just energy transition, and sustainable development.
Student Role
The student could work on the tours offered to visitors at Casa Pueblo and the La Olimpia Forest School; on the processing and packaging of Madre Isla Coffee; on processing and packaging orders from the online store; and on creating content for Radio Casa Pueblo and the organization’s social media channels (text, audio, photos, and video).
Work Schedule
Casa Pueblo is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and typically hosts activities on weekends (film screenings, talks, community services). The student should schedule their tasks within these hours. Although specific schedules will be determined once the student is at Casa Pueblo, we prefer that the work include Saturdays and Sundays, as these are the days with the highest number of visitors.
Orientation
You will receive guidance and any necessary training from Casa Pueblo’s administrative staff and guides. Meetings will also be coordinated with the executive director to establish priorities and tasks, and with the communications lead to facilitate collaborations in that area.
Housing Information
We offer student accommodation within the Casa Pueblo facilities in Adjuntas. It is a two-story house. The ground floor features two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen; the upper floor has one bedroom with a private bathroom, two bedrooms sharing a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. One of the upstairs bedrooms is furnished with bunk beds. Adjuntas is a rural town with limited public transportation; we recommend arranging your own vehicle for getting around within the municipality and traveling outside of it.
