Description

Motivated by God’s love, Habitat for Humanity Greater Cincinnati (HFHGC) brings community, partners, and future homebuyers together to build homes, communities, and hope. We create and preserve safe and affordable homeownership for families in the Greater Cincinnati area, including Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana, through our homebuyer program and our critical repair program.

Student Role

The student’s role will primarily be working on their assigned job site with some time available for research. Research would take place over 1-2 days per week, and 3-4 days would be assisting with construction of our new homes. The research part of the role could include interviewing/interacting with our constituents to gather information to guide the research project. Construction work on our build sites will include interacting with staff, volunteers, and future homeowners who are completing seat equity hours.

Work Schedule

There is some flexibility in scheduling. Our office hours are Monday – Friday, while our construction hours are Tuesday – Saturday. Exact schedules will be finalized once students are selected.

Orientation

We will schedule a zoom call with the students including key staff from our team, for an initial 60-minute orientation. This will include an introduction to our mission/programming, learning more about their intended research project goal, sharing high-level logistics and expectations. On-site orientation would take place over the first 1-2 days. We would provide an initial schedule that will include brief introduction meetings with our leadership team/department leads and the staff members they will be working with directly, tech set up and access to our internal systems, safety and other site-specific topics. Construction assistant training takes place on the job. Students will be assigned to a staff supervisor for each day on the build site. Construction task training will include framing/carpentry, site prep, and leading volunteer groups.

Housing Information

Students will live off site at Xavier University, which is a short commute from our main office.
