Description
Students would be affiliated with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and their ministry, the St. Joseph Worker Program. The sisters are a congregation of Catholic women who share a common foundation (LePuy, France, ca 1650) and mission (unity with God and unity with one another) with thousands of Sisters of St. Joseph throughout the world as they serve the dear neighbor no matter who they are. Regina Residence is a retirement and care community for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and additional religious communities. There are over 50 sisters living at Regina Residence.
Student Role
Students will, under the supervision of the Director of the Regina Residence, plan and organize group and individual activities for residents some of whom are living with cognitive impairment/symptoms of dementia. Will assist the Regina Residence Activities Director in a variety of activities designed to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, and improve daily living skills. The Sisters and staff are wonderful to work with!
Work Schedule
Regina Residence: Students would work 7 1/2 hours a day 5 days a week. They will work with staff to set up their schedule.
Orientation
St. Joseph Worker Program Director and Manager will meet by zoom with the students one month before their arrival. At that time, we would discuss the program’s expectations and be there to answer any questions. Upon arrival, we would hold an in-person orientation to include the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, Current context here in Orange County, California, and the living arrangements. They will have an onsite orientation with placement staff at Regina Residence.
Housing Information
Students will live at the house we have for the 10-month St. Joseph Worker Program. This is a 6-bedroom house in Orange, CA. Students will have their own rooms with shared baths and common space. The house is about a mile from the placement site. No support animals allowed.
