Description
Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center was founded in 1987 with the mission of providing high quality legal services or low-income immigrants and fighting for human rights. Located in El Paso, TX our services adapt to the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized – the poor; families; children; LGBTQ+; Black migrants; indigenous migrants, etc. We protect families and individuals from immigration detention and deportation recognizing the unique needs of people on the move. 100% of our paid staff are Latino and all senior leaders are Latinas. We have served over 60,000 in our community and in the El Paso Processing Center, Otero County Processing Center; and Camp East Montana at Ft. Bliss.
Student Role
The student will work as part of our Immigrant Protection Program supporting consultations with immigrant families and individuals. This looks like scheduling consultations, pre-screening potential clients, participating in consultations aside legal service providers, and supporting referrals to social service partner organizations.
Work Schedule
Our standard work week is Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5 pm. Remote work is allowed for up to 16 hours a week out of the 40-hour work week.
Orientation
We onboard all volunteers, interns, and fellows through a structured process. Several documents must be completed in full prior to placement. A supervisor will be assigned to the student and regular one on one meetings will be scheduled. The student will also join staff meetings and legal meetings to better understand the totality of our programs.

We do not have set housing and would look to Annunciation House to support housing for the summer.
