Description
Sisters of the Holy Cross Justice and Peace Centre, is a ministry responding to the needs of survivors of human trafficking, the ministry aims at restoring hope through rehabilitation services offered to survivors who were tortured and abused from the Middle East. The site is able to offer various advocacy programs, outreach programs, spiritual programs, medical services counseling, skilling programs, financial literacy, social entrepreurship, and others.
Student Role
Students shall be working with the sisters who work at the site from Monday to Friday (8am- 5pm). Their role and responsibility shall be and not limited to responding to the needs of the survivors who have been rescued and rehabilitated at the center, planning meetings/activity plans at the site, offering spiritual support just in case like retreats, going for outreach programs to the partner sites where survivors are referred according to different needs, meeting survivors one on one sharing their experiences, conducting radio programs with the team working at the site, helping to teach computer at the site, offering any skills with the administration especially paper work/record keeping/documentation and filling, doing assessment to the new survivors upon their arrival and exiting the site or center, participating in the integration program (taking survivors to their homes thus reuniting them with their family members after rehabilitation) and conducting advocacy programs especially having workshops/meeting different stakeholders, creating awareness among religious men and women to form a network against human trafficking (St Bakhita Anti Human trafficking Network Uganda LTD).
Work Schedule
Students shall have a flexible schedule according to their needs or expectations. Otherwise, the center is very active and working from Monday to Friday as official days. Since it is a center for survivors, the survivors come in on any day of the working days and weekends. Working hours are from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Then Saturday and Sunday are the free days for the students to do their personal chores and attend to any other personal needs.
Orientation
In addition to the pre-arrival orientation zoom meetings, students will be introduced to the centre and the director once they arrive. Orientation will include sharing expectations from both the side of the students and the director/sisters working at the centre. We will go through the schedule and activity plan that students shall expect on their arrival at the site and will develop student roles more as we get to know each other.
Housing Information
The students shall stay with the sisters of the Holy Cross.
Start And End Dates
Eight consecutive weeks between May 17 and August 16, 2026. Students must choose the same 8 weeks.
