Description
The Holy Cross Health Education Center was established in 1989. The Center serves the health care and health education needs of residents, most of whom suffer from malnutrition and lack of access to care. Students will accompany and assists sisters in the Health Education activities.
Student Role
Students will assist sisters and staff with health assessments, health checkups, health screenings such as taking vital signs and RBS, health education efforts, awareness seminars in urban areas and villages, prenatal care and family and community visits. A translator will be hired part-time to assist students in outreach efforts.
Work Schedule
Friday, Saturday and Sunday (from 8am to 5pm) outreach/Health awareness camp. Monday: off day. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8am to 1pm : assist sisters in the Health Education Center: 3:30pm to 6pm family visits.
Orientation
Orientation will be about place and environment, culture, weather, foods, and job description that they will perform during their 2 months staying. If they have any questions we are available to explain throughout their stay. Sisters in the USA will help provide orientation pre-arrival, as well.
Housing Information
Students will live in a community with Holy Cross Sisters, separate rooms will be provided for each person and they will share a common bathroom and toilet. Expectations: we are hoping that they will join the community morning prayer followed by mass, breakfast and meals. If they have any problems, we welcome their feedback. Students must be of the same gender.
Student Preferences
Female students would be preferred as they will live with sisters in the community.
