Site Description: St. Anthony Foundation is a Franciscan social service agency, located in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, serving individuals and families in need of basic human services. Founded in 1950 by Franciscan Friar Alfred Boeddeker, St. Anthony Dining Room was established to provide an atmosphere that welcomed low-income and homeless people with dignity and respect. Since the Dining Room’s inception, St. Anthony’s has responded to the needs of our guests by developing a comprehensive multi-service approach to fulfilling our mission “to feed, heal, clothe, shelter, lift the spirit of those in need and create a society in which all persons flourish.” St. Anthony Foundation has developed a structured, comprehensive summer internship program which combines direct service opportunities along with research projects and administrative duties. By learning, first hand, how poverty and homelessness affect people in the community, we hope students will gain a new insight into the systematic changes needed to address these social issues. Weekly group education and reflection sessions are also facilitated by the Internship Program Coordinator, giving the interns the chance to learn more in depth about these issues. In these sessions, students are also encouraged to think critically about the service they are providing, and given the opportunity to share experiences and discoveries with one another. Student Responsibilities: Front Office: - Welcome patients and register them in the clinic’s Electronic Health Record System. Field patient walk-ins and educate them regarding our services and procedures. Conduct written and phone correspondence. Patient care: -Assist in patient outreach and compliance by working with the clinic’s chronic care program coordinators for Asthma and Diabetes. Administrative duties. This would include recording or processing patient data inside our EHRS, Healthy San Francisco patient billing, paper filing and copying, setting up for special clinic events, etc.
Clinic Interns are provided with training and support from the Internship Coordinator as well as the Clinic Administrative Coordinator. Clinic Interns will assist in three areas:
