Most Blessed Trinity Parish

We are a Catholic parish whose mission is to serve God's people with a preferential option for the poor. Our parish community social services include a food pantry, soup kitchen, domestic violence shelter, immigration center, as well as areas in advocacy, homelessness and environmental concerns. Two SSLP students will live on site and help serve in the many ministries offered, primarily teaching ESL and citizenship classes and working in the food pantry.

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

The Cathedral Outreach Center serves the needs of homeless, working poor individuals and families around downtown Los Angeles.
•Each week a team of dedicated volunteers prepares and delivers over a thousand meals to several shelters.
•We collaborate with UCLA mobile eye clinic in providing free eye exam and prescription glasses.
•Provide pastoral visits to Men’s Central Jail (requirement: the student must be 21 years old).
•Prepare over 600 hygiene kits and distribute to several shelters throughout Los Angeles area.


Grandville Avenue Arts and Humanities

Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities (GAAH) is a neighborhood organization that runs two centers: the Cook Library Center and the Cook Arts Center. These two vibrant neighborhood hubs are always bustling with children after school and during summer camps, and operate almost in sight of shiny downtown buildings. They are nestled, however, among two-story houses and local businesses in a predominantly Hispanic and African American neighborhood. Many students are bilingual in Spanish and English.

St. Peter Claver Church - Community Organizing

SSLP student will participate in community work through Church-Based Organizing, Census and Evangelization of the neighborhood. Student will work closely with parish staff and community leaders in community and church-based organizing efforts. In addition, student will partake in other parish outreach and ministries, including youth group activities in the evenings and helping with summer youth camp as well. St. Peter Claver is an African American Community with a rich history and community.


Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit

Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit is a food pantry serving several sections of the Southwest Detroit neighborhood.

Student Responsibilities:


Southwest Detroit Vicariate

The Southwest Detroit Vicariate sites works with a variety of ministries in the community. St. Stephen/Mary Mother of the Church is a Catholic parish in Southwest Detroit, serving a Latino population with many young children. 90% of the community is Spanish speaking. The 3 SSLP students help run summer programs, tutor and coach a soccer team for children from this parish. Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit is a food pantry serving several sections of the Southwest Detroit neighborhood where the students also assist.

St. Catherine of Siena Parish

Petersburg and Wrangell are both fishing communities located on islands in Southeast Alaska. The student will be works with the St. Catherine of Siena and St. Rose of Lima Parishes in the planning, implementation, and coordination of a Vacation Bible School (grades K-8). Additionally, students assists in minor repairs, landscaping, and upkeep of the parishes as needed.

St. Anthony of Padua

Founded in the 1950s, Saint Anthony is a working-class church in Camden, NJ. The Franciscans arrived in 1993 and Notre Dame alumnus, Fr. Jud Weiksnar, arrived in 2005 as pastor. The SSLP students enter into the life of the parish that includes a wide variety of activities focused on serving the poor, marginalized and immigrant: youth community organizing, Francis House, a ministry for persons with HIV/AIDS, the school summer program, liturgical ministry, social outreach, etc. There are 3 Friars who live at the parish and 3 Franciscan Volunteers who live a few blocks away.


Romero Center Ministries

Romero Center Ministries is an urban retreat and social justice education center in the heart of East Camden, NJ.

St. Andre Bessette Catholic Church

Saint Andre Bessette Catholic Church provides hospitality and basic social services for people experiencing homelessness, mental illness, addiction, loneliness and extreme poverty in Downtown Portland. Saint Andre Bessette is a small Roman Catholic Parish in the heart of downtown Portland. Our Mission is to proclaim Christ's healing compassion in downtown Portland. Through our labors with folks from the streets and shelters, we strive to restore hope, meet some basic needs, and share in God's Persistent Love with our neighbors.
