Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank

We are a food bank serving 11 counties in the Pittsburgh area.

Student Responsibilities:
The student will learn every aspect of the food bank. He will shadow each department and learn what each function of the food bank does. He will also do some learning experiences where he will learn first hand experiences (visit an agency, attend Green Grocery, ride along with a truck driver, volunteer at a P2P, etc).


Ayuda is the District's leading source of multi-lingual legal and social service assistance for low-income Latinos and foreign-born persons in immigration, human trafficking, domestic violence, and family law. In addition to meeting clients' basic needs, Ayuda helps clients set goals to work toward self-sufficiency. Students will be placed with Ayuda's Social Services Department that provides comprehensive case management services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC)

TASC works on helping ex-offender females reintegrate into society after spending many years institutionalized in a women’s prison. The program provides follow-up on women who have completed TASC’s twelve month re-entry program, to see if they are still crime and drug free. The student is involved in helping in the office, visiting women in prison to give them information about the program, and supervising and interviewing clients.

The Notre Dame Club of Cleveland asks that three local students be selected. Once students are selected, the Club contact works with the students to determine their sites; there is a wide variety to choose from. One of the sites can be healthcare related while the other sites are in other areas of social service.

Broadmoor Development Corporation

The Broadmoor Neighborhood in New Orleans developed a comprehensive redevelopment plan after Hurricane Katrina. The Census Intern is responsible for administering a survey that the BDC is circulating to gather information on the households in Broadmoor. The student trains volunteers and then supervise them as they go door-to-door to obtain information from residents. The Youth Programming Intern plans events for the summer and beyond, indentifying leaders and role models to help sustain the program.

Brother's Keeper - FL

Brothers Keeper is a social service agency/ministry of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala Florida. Brothers Keeper assists people who are needy and homeless of the county. BK operates a lunch soup kitchen from 12 to 1 everyday of the year. BK also provides emergency utility, food, clothing, medications and rental assistance on a case by case basis. Students work here before or after their time at Camp Boggy Creek.

Student Responsibilities:
Help in the Soup KItchen. Learn to interview clients. Assist with retail operations.

Cleveland Mediation Center

The Cleveland Mediation Center promotes constructive conflict resolution, especially among youth, and strengthens community ties with an emphasis on mediation and mediation training. The Center works in the community to stop evictions, improve school attendance, facilitate dialogue with neighbors, and train those who wish to mediate. The student’s main efforts are with the homeless prevention program, the school truancy program, and mediation training.

West Side Catholic Center celebrates over 40 years of serving the poor and homeless in Cleveland. Grounded in faith, hope, love, and respect for those we serve, the West Side Catholic Center assists all who come in need of food, clothing, shelter, advocacy, and a path to self-sufficiency.
