At Mount Carmel, accomplishing our mission means providing healthcare, not only to the patients at our central Ohio hospitals and health centers, but also to the underserved members of our community who have limited access and barriers to basic health care services, as well as little or no ability to pay for them.

Mother Teresa House

Mother Teresa House is a small home in downtown Lansing, MI providing care for people with terminal illnesses.
For over 20 years Mother Teresa House has been taking in guests (up to 3 at a time) regardless of their social, religious, or financial background, with preference given to those in greatest need.
Volunteers provide 24/7 care by offering personal care and presence to the guests. As a volunteer caregiver, the student assists with the guests' basic needs - anything from feeding and dressing to offering love and companionship.

Matthew 25 Health Clinic

Inspired by the Gospel, Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic fills a critical need by providing free medical, dental, and vision services to uninsured, low-income residents of Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. Matthew 25 continues to improve the quality of life for our patients by providing necessary medical care and medications that would hopefully, enable their entry back into the workforce. No other organization in the city fills Matthew 25’s unique mission. Matthew 25 is the only free clinic in Allen County open on a full-time basis.

Jersey Shore Medical Trauma Center/Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center serves the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families at this teaching hospital and trauma center. This medical center provides vital elements not available at other hospitals, such as full-time trauma surgeons, 24-hour CT scans and specialized nurses and technicians. The student deals with all areas of medicine, caring for patients and their families in emergencies as well as end-of-life situations.

Holy Angels

Holy Angels is a residential setting for children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities and/or physical disabilities ranging from mild/moderate to severe/profound. Medical attention is provided around the clock. Many of the residents are wheelchair bound and non-verbal. Holy Angels offers a wide range of activities for the residents assisting each resident in reaching his or her full potential.

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts provides free reconstructive surgeries to children and young people who do not have access to such medical care. Fresh Start also runs a dental clinic. The student works in the office and helps co-workers with a variety of projects like filing, data entry, poster designing, and running errands. On Surgery Weekends, the student fills out the time log that is used in measuring the efficiency of the weekend and gets to watch the surgeries from inside the Operating Room.

Student Responsibilities:

Sr. Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center

Sister Maura Brannick, CSC, Health Center provides primary healthcare services to individuals without health insurance who fall below 200% of the federally-designated poverty level. The Health Center addresses prevention of disease and illness and focuses on the overall health and well-being of each patient. The focus of the clinic is not only primary, preventative healthcare as specialty care is also provided to our patients from volunteer physicians. Additional services patients also have access to are a dental facility, counseling, an exercise room, and a food pantry.

Care Alliance

Care Alliance Health Center provides medical care, dental care, behavioral health care, and supportive services to those whom need it most, including individuals experiencing homelessness and individuals living in our around public housing. Care Alliance has specialized HIV/AIDS and diabetes treatment programs and makes outreach trips to area shelters and community outreach in the public housing setting.

Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) provides comprehensive health and supportive services, linking people who are homeless to individual and collective solutions. The student will provide administrative help in the medical clinic, create art with clients at ArtStreet, go on outreach with its Harm Reduction program, and provide assistance in the Resource Center with AHCH's client advocates.

Azzarelli Outreach Clinic

Azzarelli Outreach Clinic is a free, volunteer-operated medical clinic providing doctor's visits and services to a largely Latino population of patients who are uninsured. The clinic is possible because of local doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses who volunteer their time and skills. The student assists in the clinic’s operations by translating for Spanish-speaking patients, shadowing doctor visits, taking vitals and medical histories, and generally providing assistance wherever needed.
