Higher Ground Youth & Family Services

Higher Ground is a mentoring program for youth and families living in at risk communities. Our youth are dealing with all the crimes of poverty including gangs, drugs and human trafficking. Living in disadvantaged communities limits choices so the goal of HG is to level the playing field for these youth and their future. Our mission is to facilitate exploration and discovery of life's possibilities through mentorship, as we expand purpose and possibilities for youth and their families.

Breakthrough Urban Ministries

Breakthrough demonstrates the compassion of Christ by partnering with those affected by poverty to build skills, grow relationships and open doors of opportunity. The organization has a "hyper-local" approach where we build deep authentic relationships in a small geographic target area of Chicago's Garfield Park community. While the organization operates programs for job training, food pantry, mental health, overnight shelters, and violence prevention, this internship would focus within the youth/children's programs primarily.

Mercy Center

Mercy Center is a comprehensive community center that has been serving women and their families in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx, NY for 30 years. We address the needs of the whole person, developing skills for healthy family living and economic advancement and building a community of respect, hospitality and non-violence. Mercy Center provides a range of programs and services to our participants, most of whom are immigrants and almost two-thirds of whom survive on annual household incomes of less than $20,000.

Northside Child Development Center

Located in North Minneapolis, Minnesota, Catholic Charities Northside Child Development Center has been serving children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old since the early 80’s. The average annual income for a family of four receiving our services is approximately $14,000. We fulfill an important need by providing high quality, reliable, and trusted childcare for those of limited means. Our mission is focused entirely on optimal opportunities for children so that they are better prepared to reach their full potential.

Sheakley Boys & Girls Club

Our mission is "To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens." At Sheakley Boys & Girls Club, we provide a fun, safe and enriching program based around our Program Model of Graduate, Fit For Life, Ready to Serve. Daily activities include recreational and educational activities, as well as field trips.

Boys & Girls Club of Allentown

For over 79 years, the Boys & Girls club of Allentown (BGCA) has been providing challenging programs and services to youth, ages 6 - 18, in our community. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We offer daily access to a broad range of opportunities in five core areas: Education & Career Development; Character & Leadership Development; Health & Life Skills; the Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.

Camp Gonnawannagoagin'

FACT creates social and recreational programs that improve social communication and quality of life for individuals (ages 4 to 21 years old) with autism and their families. Camp Gonnawannagoagin' is a fun filled, action packed day camp in Virginia Beach for 6 weeks each summer. Students, ages 4 to Adult with a primary diagnosis of autism, are eligible to attend. Daily swimming and field trips highlight the program that also includes music, crafts, sports, and games…everything a day camp for typical children offers, because children with autism are children first.

Catholic Charities - Summer Camp

Our summer program seeks to serve families of the Peoria area by helping children grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. The camp is open to any children ages 6 to 13 who wish to join. This year we are expecting 45 - 50 campers. We will have 4 to 5 paid part time staff, 1 -2 unpaid staff and 10 part-time volunteers who will help.

Student Responsibilities:
Student will be responsible for helping the camp staff ensure the safety and development of campers, facilitate daily activities, and act as a positive role model for campers.

St. Pius V Parish - Casa Juan Diego Youth Center

Student Responsibilities:
Will be responsible to support the after school program coordinator, and will be guided by the coordinator. Some of the responsibilities are to accompany the participants during the summer program, working directly with kids ages 6-12 years, be a role model, support the coordinator to plan the summer program with educational and recreational activities such as reading, math, science, sport and art classes as well as field trips and other activities.

Lincoln Village

Our mission and scope is broad based to bring renewal & hope to an impoverished area of our city. This includes a private academy for low income students in our area. It also includes the purchasing & renovation of over 30 structures to provide clean & economical housing for the families. We also address health & legal issues for the residents. A food pantry & a church have been established for local residents, as well. We also are helping to create economic growth in the area by working w/ local businesses.
