The Rev. Don McNeill, C.S.C. Leadership Fellows Program

The Rev. Don McNeill, C.S.C. Leadership Fellows Program forms passionate, faith-inspired leaders prepared to advocate and educate for human dignity and live lives of active citizenship for the common good. Each year, the program welcomes a small cohort of students  to consider the roles of social responsibility and leadership formation within their lives, and how these things intersect with vocational aspirations beyond Notre Dame.

The McNeill Leadership Fellowship is a curricular program distinguished by five key elements: an integrated learning experience that takes place inside and outside the classroom across many academic disciplines, personal and professional discernment, leadership formation rooted in the Catholic social tradition, a year-long mentorship relationship with a local professional, and a commitment to mutual engagement with local community partners for the purposes of learning, service, and research.

Learning outcomes of the cohort are rooted in the mastery of five key competencies that foster leadership within undergraduate students:

  • Understanding justice
  • Understanding ourselves and others
  • Reading the signs of the times
  • Training for effective action
  • Responding to critical needs in innovative ways

At the completion of the program, McNeill Fellows will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to innovate and respond to the social and political signs of our times, recognize and respond to injustice, motivate others toward works of mercy, and ultimately form and mobilize a faith that does justice and impacts the world for the common good.
