Calling all ND, SMC, and HCC undergraduate students to create art in response to the phrase, "Justice in the World." Art could explore race, gender, religion, sexuality, ability, the environment, immigration, incarceration, or other contemporary realities in which human dignity is threatened or enhanced. Whether capturing a current injustice or portraying a new vision of solidarity, this art should reflect "hope in a better world and a will to change whatever has become intolerable." (World Synod of Catholic Bishops, Justice in the World).
Eligible media includes painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramic, mixed media, and design. Any original art made in 2020 or 2021 is eligible, and students can submit up to 3 entries. For students in community-based learning courses, art that is co-created by a student and community member is eligible.
Submission Guidelines
Images of the art should be photographed and submitted, along with title and artist statement by 11:59 p.m. on March 20, 2021. Please provide high resolution photos with good lighting and crop if necessary to ensure nothing external to the artwork is included in the photo. Submissions will be juried, and selected pieces will be showcased virtually by the Center for Social Concerns during the week of its Catholic Social Tradition Conference, March 25–27. Cash prizes for top pieces will be awarded.
