Labor Café | LABORatories of Democracy

Friday, January 31, 2020 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

The Labor Café convenes the Notre Dame community for coffee and casual conversation on contemporary questions about work, workers, and workplaces. What rights and protections should those who work for others have? What's the proper role for government in the economy? How should we address enduring problems of inequality, poverty, and lack of opportunity? And what does Catholic Social Teaching have to say about these labor questions? Participants choose the concrete topics, all people are welcome, and all opinions are entertained. For the spring 2020 semester, we meet on the final Friday of the month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the McNeill Library.

LABORatories of Democracy

With legislative gridlock in Congress, state and local governments across the US are taking action on minimum wages, paid parental leave, sick days, union rights,  and more. What do these experiments with labor protections and economic regulations tell us about the prospects for working for a living in the USA in 2020 and beyond? Join us at the Labor Cafe to find out -- and add your voice to the conversation.

Resources to get the conversation started:
