South Bend and Chicago
The Center for Social Concerns will offer its inaugural Graduate Summer Institute for Engaged Research and Teaching early this summer (2022). Graduate students at all levels of study are welcome to attend. Designed for students interested in applying disciplinary interests to real world problems, the institute will explore best practices in the fields of community engagement and public scholarship.
The institute will begin on Tuesday, May 31 at the University of Notre Dame with an introduction to theory and praxis. Day two will be a full-day immersion in Chicago to explore efforts and models at DePaul University’s Steans Center and Loyola University’s Center for Engaged Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship and Center for Urban Research and Learning. On day three we will meet for the morning at the Robinson Community Learning Center in South Bend to learn of engaged opportunities there and beyond. All travel expenses and meals will be covered during the Institute, and learning materials provided.
