Color of Compromise: Why the History of the Church and Race Matters

Monday, February 3, 2020 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Jemar Tisby, Notre Dame alumnus, will speak at a public lecture which is also the opening class session for the spring social concerns seminar, "Act Justly: Racial Justice and the American Civil Rights Movement." In 2019, Tisby released his first book, Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church's Complicity in Racism, which describes the way in which Christianity has worked against American racial justice efforts, both past and present. Tisby has lived and worked in Mississippi and Arkansas since graduating from Notre Dame, beginning with Teach for America. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in History at the University of Mississippi. He serves as president of The Witness, a Black Christian Collective, and is co-host of Pass the Mic podcast.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this event! Book signing to follow.
