SOCO Alumni Spotlight: Immigration and Criminal Law with Rudy and Cecilia Monterrosa

Join us to hear from Rudy ’01 and Cecilia ’25 Monterrosa about how engagement with transformational experiences in service of justice have influenced their lives and career paths.
Rudy Monterrosa graduated with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Stanford before pursuing his JD at Notre Dame Law School. He now teaches immigration law at the Notre Dame Law School and serves as a commissioner with the American Bar Association. Cecilia graduated from UC Riverside with degrees in Political Science and Law and Society before attending Valparaiso University Law School. She also graduated in 2025 with an MBA from Notre Dame! She now teaches as an adjunct professor at the Notre Dame Law School, and was recently recognized as a Michigan Chamber of Commerce 40 under 40 recipient. A husband and wife team, Rudy and Cecilia founded Monterrosa Law Group, focusing on immigration law nationwide, federal and criminal defense, and family law in Indiana.
The Monterrosas’ demonstrate a shared commitment to public service, co-teaching a Public Defender Externship Course at the Law School through which they gathered a group of law students to represent detained mothers and children in the Dilley Detention Center in Texas. The Monterrosas exemplify fierce advocacy and the integration of ‘What Would You Fight For?” in their professional careers by serving their community.
