SOCO Alumni Spotlight: Housing, Homelessness, and Leadership with Steve Camilleri

The 2025–26 Genesis cohort at the Institute for Social Concerns is welcoming local ND alums back to campus to speak on how transformational experiences rooted in service and justice have shaped their lives and career paths.

Join us to hear from Steve Camilleri ’01 about how engagement with transformational experiences in service of justice have influenced his life and career path.

Steve Camilleri is a 1994 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, studying Sociology and Marketing. He also has his Masters of Nonprofit Administration, also from Notre Dame. Mr. Camilleri is currently the Executive Director of South Bend’s largest residential homeless center, the Center for the Homeless, fighting for those who are currently unhoused. After beginning his career in justice-oriented work as one of the first teachers in Notre Dame’s ACE program, Mr Camilleri has been a tireless advocate for compassionate service towards others. His professional career has been tangibly shaped by the fight for social justice and housing equity, leading to his current role leading the Center for the Homeless. Mr Camilleri’s commitment to respecting not only the rights, but also the dignity, of every human being that enters the center is a testament to the impact and integration of a Notre Dame education into his work.

Mr. Camilleri will speak on the role that his time at Notre Dame and other transformative experiences have had on his own professional and personal development.
