Bethany Catholic Worker House

Site Description:

Bethany House is a Catholic Worker House of Hospitality serving the needs of homeless women and children. The house is founded on the principles of non-judgmental hospitality, nonviolence, and voluntary poverty. Services offered include housing, food, clothing, and support. As a live-in staff person, the student assists with all Bethany House services. The most important responsibility is being available to listen and love the women in the house.

Student Responsibilities:
The student will help with the food cupboard, making foodbags, stocking shelves and distributing food to those in need. The SSLP student will welcome guests who come to live in the shelter, advocate for those who come for the drop-in center, help prepare meals and participate in community decision making. Occasionally, there are women staying at the house who have children, which presents opportunities to play with and care for them. Needs at the home are always shifting depending on who our guests are at the time.
