Academic Events/Initiatives

Community-Engaged Learning events/initiatives, or co-sponsorship requests, can take many forms to advance social justice education, including research seminars, working groups, learning communities, book reads, lectures, panel discussions, topical series of events, and much more. We encourage creativity and collaboration in this category and are happy to work with you prior to your submission of this proposal so that our partnership is more than a funding exchange for co-sponsorship of an event/initiative.

Proposals should explain how an investment in a co-curricular learning opportunity will translate into community impact and advance social justice. Proposals must address a dimension of community-engaged research, teaching, and/or learning (CERTL) consistent with the mission of the Center for Social Concerns.

Applications for events/co-sponsorships must be submitted at least four weeks before the requested event. If your proposal needs a response after the 4-week minimum but before the proposal deadline, please select the "expedited review" option within the form and give a detailed explanation as to why an expedited review is necessary for the proposed submission. The committee will review to see if the proposal meets expedited review requirements and will receive a response within 11 business days and that response will be one of the following:

  1. An expedited approval of the proposal
  2. An expedited declination of the proposal
  3. An indication that the proposal does not meet the qualifications for expedited review

 

In addition to some standard questions, you will be required to upload the following documents in the application:

▢   CV or resumé of lead applicant, and (if relevant)

▢   CV or resumé core team members

▢  A Word document to narrate the rationale, intended community impact, and assessment plan for your proposal. Projected outcomes must align with the strategic goals and learning goals of the Center for Social Concerns. 

▢  A budget. Itemize your budget request and provide a brief rationale for expenses. You may use our budget template (the template is also available in the application) or feel free to upload your own. Note if you have received and/or are seeking additional funding elsewhere. Please note, unused funds should be returned to the Center for Social Concerns via a transfer at the conclusion of the project.
