2025 Student Awards

The Institute for Social Concerns welcomes nominations for two annual awards for seniors active in Social Concerns minors (Poverty Studies and Catholic Social Teaching), courses, Justice Labs (housing, just wage, mass incarceration), or programs.

  • Sr. Thea Bowman Award – The Sr. Thea Bowman award is given annually to an undergraduate student who exemplifies a commitment to justice and dignity through active engagement within and outside the campus community and who demonstrates a sense of vocation dedicated to the common good in the spirit of Sr. Thea Bowman.
  • Undergraduate Research Award – The undergraduate research award is given annually to a student for a major piece of original, independent research (paper or thesis) addressing a question of justice and/or promoting the common good.

All nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2025. Award recipients will be recognized at the Institute for Social Concerns Send-Off Ceremony for Social Concerns seniors and their families in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, Friday, May 16, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please reach out to Felicia Johnson O’Brien (f.obrien@nd.edu) at the Institute for Social Concerns.
