Each summer, approximately 230 students live and serve for eight weeks in 120 communities across the country through the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP). Thank you for your generosity, mentorship, and leadership in this collaborative effort that we hope mutually benefits students, your organization, the ND Club in your area, and most importantly, people in need in your local community.
In the navigation menu on the left, you will find links to the Guide for Site Partners with helpful information about expectations for sites and Promising Practices, which features videos of SSLP site supervisors sharing some great ideas about how to make the summer as fruitful as possible. The guide also provides information about the SSLP course, readings, and assignments so that you are aware of how students are reflecting on their experience. We invite you to engage in conversation with students on these topics regarding social justice, the analysis of social problems, and theological reflection.
Felicia Johnson O'Brien is the primary contact person who supports the work of site partners.
October 15 SSLP Site Description forms are sent out to all contacts from the previous year asking for a renewed commitment to participate and updates for the coming summer.
November 15 Deadline for submitting your commitment and updated site description form.
November - April Students apply, interview, and are matched for specific SSLP sites; the placement process is on a rolling basis. We notify Notre Dame Clubs and SSLP sites as each student commits to a placement. Students are expected to contact their SSLP site contact and ND Club within two weeks of committing to a placement.
May Sites are invited to participate in a conference call to learn about updates for the year and to share best practices.
Mid-May to Mid-August Students begin their placements as early as the week after graduation (mid-May) and continue as late as one week before the start of the Fall term (mid-August).
August Upon completion of your students' time of service, site partners submit an evaluation form for each student.
September We review all site and ND Club evaluations, conduct debriefing interviews with all students and send you feedback.
