Andrea Smith Shappell, M.A.

Andrea Smith Shappell is an Assistant Director of the Center in Theological Reflection and Director of the Summer Service Learning Program. She is responsible for the administration of the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP), ACCION , Interfaith Worker Justice, and other summer opportunities for students. The three programs are three credit courses in theology, business or economics, respectively, which center on an 8-10 week summer service experience in cities across the United States. She is an Associate Professional Specialist in the Institute for Church Life, concurrent in Theology.

Previously, Smith Shappell was the Director of Senior Transition Programs at the Center for Social Concerns. Smith Shappell graduated from Notre Dame in 1979 with a degree in American Studies and returned for a Masters degree in Theology in 1985. Since 1981, she has served in a variety of positions at the Center for Social Concerns. Prior to her work at the Center, Smith Shappell worked for Catholic Charities in Gary, IN in the area of Family Ministry. With her husband, Brian, she served with the Social Apostolate in New Orleans in 1980-81.
