Bill Purcell, M.Div.

Bill Purcell is the Associate Director for Catholic Social Tradition and Practice and is the primary leader at the Center for Social Concerns in advancing its mission and plan to expand its commitment to communicating the Catholic Social Tradition at Notre Dame, the local community and throughout the Catholic Church nationally. His work focuses on bringing the resources of the University of Notre Dame to the social action efforts of the Catholic Church, such as the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the Roundtable and Catholic Relief Services.

Bill also works on initiatives leading to ways in which national Catholic organizations can assist Notre Dame in its mission to provide learning for service to justice. Justice education efforts both at the University through forums and conferences, and in the wider community by providing workshops on social justice issues is another focus of Bill’s work.

In addition to his work at the CSC, Bill also has faculty status as a Professional Specialist of the Institute for Church Life. He will also be assisting Prof. Todd Whitmore in coordinating the Program in Catholic Social Tradition.

Bill has a Master of Divinity from Notre Dame and was most recently Director of the Office for Peace and Justice of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and worked with the CSC as a consultant prior to his current position.
